Presentation Description:Air Cleaning (Particulate Filtration, Portable and In-Duct Air Cleaners, Coil Cleaning) and Airborne Infectious Diseases

This course provides an overview of air cleaning to minimize infectious diseases spread using ASHRAE COVID-19 filtration and disinfection framework. How to select particulate filters, air cleaners, and how to determine coil cleaning frequency and design considerations with respect to pressure drop, efficiency for different particulate size, by-pass, clean air delivery rate, and by-products will be reviewed. Different approaches using one or combination of control methods will be compared from energy and indoor air quality impact.

It is our pleasure to announce that Terry E. Townsend, P.E. will be presenting the topic of “Advanced Energy Conservation and IEQ Design Guidance and Applications” for our November Virtual Meeting!

Speaker Bio:

Terry E. Townsend, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, is president of Townsend Engineering Inc., Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Panama City, Florida. In 2006-07, he served as president of ASHRAE, where he focused the Society’s efforts on The ASHRAE Promise: A Sustainable Future, highlighting ASHRAE’s work in sustainability in the building environment. His achievements as president include launching ASHRAE’s first ever certification program, accelerating and expanding the Advanced Energy Design Guide series, setting more stringent savings for ASHRAE’s energy standard, and proving resources on how ASHRAE can minimize the impact of its meetings on the environment.

Presentation Description:

Energy efficient buildings that do not provide proper IAQ and comfort for its occupants are really failures. This presentation goes through guidance in the AEDG series coupled with advanced guidance from Standards 90.1, 62.1 and 55 in order to provide the design team with tactics that must be integrated into sustainable buildings as we march forward to Net-Zero Energy facilities. The presentation will provide specific guidance for building types and climatic regions that attendees will be familiar with.

September Program- Thermal Displacement Ventilation Dr. Andrey Livchak

The Wisconsin Chapter of ASHRAE is proud to announce that on September 15th we will kick off our fall 2020 speaker series with Dr. Andrey Livchak who will be presenting “The Fundamentals of Thermal Displacement Ventilation”. Dr. Livchak will also be discussing the ASHRAE recommendations for HVAC systems during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Andrey Livchak has over 30 years of international experience in the HVAC industry. He graduated from Moscow Civil Engineering University in 1983 with honors and M.Sc. degree. In 1989 he received Ph.D. in engineering from the same university. His expertise covers several areas including air distribution, heat recovery, cooling, heating systems, acoustics and commercial kitchen ventilation. Dr. Livchak started his engineering career in 1983 in Moscow working at the government research laboratory. He joined Halton in 1989 working first in its European division and in 1998 moved to the U.S. to manage Halton R&D center. In his current position as the Director of Global R&D for the Foodservice division, Dr. Livchak is responsible for planning and coordinating research and development of five Halton Research Centers in America, Europe and Asia. Presentation Description:

Thermal displacement ventilation (TDV) is a unique system that saves energy and, at the same time, improves indoor environmental quality of HVAC systems in cooling applications. This presentation will give classification of air distribution systems in terms of temperature and CO2 concentration; it will describe fundamental differences between TDV and Mixing Ventilation. It will explain how ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2010 impacts TDV system design and describe benefits and limitations of TDV. It will also cover TDV performance when space heating is provided by secondary heating systems and when displacement diffusers are used for space heating in all-air systems.

PDHs will be issued via email after the presentation.

This presentation is approved for GBCI and AIA CEUs
