Gus Larson Scholarship

Gus Larson

Born in Sweden in 1881, he moved with his parents to Idaho in 1890. After obtaining his B.S. degree at the University of Idaho (1907), he was test engineer for the General Electric Company for two years. He served the University of Idaho as associate professor of mechanical engineering and as graduate manager of athletics (1909-1914). He came to the University of Wisconsin in 1914 as assistant professor of mechanical engineering, rose to the rank of professor, and served until his retirement in 1951. Larson was chairman of the mechanical engineering department from 1920 to 1947. Prominent in the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, he was a member of its council, chairman of its committee on research, president (1936), and chairman of its executive committee (1937). He was consulting engineer for the physical plant at the University of Wisconsin and for the Ordnance Division of the War Department (1917-1918). Purpose:
To honor the late G.L. Larson through senior engineering students who have an interest in specializing in the field of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration.

Eligibility:
Engineering students about to enter their senior year who have an interest in the field of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration and indicate this by enrolling in courses associated with this field.

Amount:
Up to $5,000 will be divided between as many as three (3) recipients.
